Winter Freeze – SWAIN looks to the Thaw
09 February 2009
Despite freezing weather, an unstable economy and conditions to try the bravest heart, a mixture of angels, and key members of the financial services in the west country descended on Bristol Golf Club to hear respected futurologist, Richard Worsley, speak on future trends and current attitudes.
Richard, Co-director of The Tomorrow Project gave a fascinating talk, analysing global issues such as the credit crunch, global food shortages and global warming to answer the question whether the current financial situation is a “blip” in history or a cataclysmic event.
To provide a different perspective the South West representative of the Bank of England, Geoff Harding described the situation “on the ground”. Sadly his appraisal was reasonably bleak through he did emphasise that the Bank of England had methods of injecting life into the economy reaching beyond interest rate cuts.
The event was hosted by SWAIN (South West Angel and Investor Network). Philip Tellwright, Managing Director if SWAIN explained, “We arranged this event so that a full picture of the current climate could be seen and were delighted with the attendance of eighty knowledgeable individuals who sparked some lively debates.”
